Description of Game
Black Matter is a project that I was invited to be a part of when the developers were in the late stages of a Game Jam. I happily accepted, and after the Game Jam, we decided to enhance the game and make a full Steam release. Essentially, Black Matter is an 'Emergency Simulator.' You are in charge of keeping the laboratory in good condition. Unfortunately, during your shift, a massive black hole, which was being used for research, breaks through and starts to slowly destroy the lab. Everything goes wrong, and you must maintain the safety of the lab to contain the black hole. You can achieve this by resetting generators and performing simple safety tasks to prevent the lab's destruction. Think you can contain it?
Task Overview
As a proud member on the team I am in charge of making sure everything works they way intended. Using created UI elements, I need to make sure that they are responding appropriately to the game when something happens. Such as a hurt indicator. When the player gets hurt by either a enemy or an object around the game space. The character will take damage and the screen notifies the player that damage was taken. I also designed our pause and resume functionality in the game. Creating a settings menu and giving players a easier access to customizing there player experience.
There are many roles I had being apart of this great team of developers. Such as system design, I played a huge role in designing the character movement and UI placement for the character. All of these task I have learned and practiced with my team and help shape me into a much better designer and helped me to understand more of an importance with teamwork and collaboration.

Pause Menu Design




Headbob and Hurt Indicator
The first video is an example of some character tweaks and mechanics of the enemies. Head bob and camera shake when moving. On screen hurt indicator when enemies apply damage.

Road Spline Mesh
Road spline mesh created for a more efficient way to construct a road. Some minor level design. This road was built to create the opening cutscene of the game.

Robot Configuration
These robots are used to either attack you or help maintain the facility from the black hole. Tweaked the robots to do ,more damage and adjusted speeds of robots.
